Track from Flowers for My Life - Wasted on the Way

The unheralded Flowers for My Life constinues to be one of the best Korean dramas I have seen so far. It's soundtrack, although not commercially available, is also great. Was tuning in to the evergreen channel, Gold 90.5FM when they played Graham Nash's Wasted on the Way. This song was widely played in Flowers for My Life.

I just had to share the lyrics of the song with you as it struck a chord deep within me. Sometimes we can only understand the meaning behind certain songs after having travelled some distance in life's journey. You caa also listen to the song via the embedded Imeem widget on the sidebar. Enjoy!

Look around me, I can see my life before me
Running rings around the way it used to be
I am older now, I have more than what I wanted
But I wish that I had started long before I did

And there's so much time to make up
Everywhere you turn
Time we have wasted on the way
So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away

Oh when you were young, did you question all the answers
Did you envy all the dancers who had all the nerve
Look around you now, you must go for what you wanted
Look at all my friends who did and got what they deserved

And there's so much love to make up
Everywhere you turn
Love we have wasted on the way
So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away
Let the water come and carry us away

Music Video: Flowers of My Life (74-75)

Did I say that Flowers for My Life is my all-time favourite K-drama series? Well, I have to say it once more! It's my favourite, and it's the BEST!

Apart from the well-scripted story, impeccable acting, it also has a really nice soundtrack. Pity that KBS doesn't plan to produce an OST for the drama.

Anyway, I managed to track down this fan-made music video which uses one of the songs "74-75", which happens to be one of my favourite tracks in the drama. Sit back, enjoy the clip and the nice music.

Update on KBS drama series Flowers for My Life

Many people have been asking if KBS' drama - Flowers for My Life will be released on dvd. Like so many other who have enjoyed this drama, I also wondered if I will be able to obtain its dvd release for collection.

Rather than waiting around and surfing through forums, I decided to write in to KBS on this. And since I am not an industry insider, my only point of contact was KBS World's website. From there I wrote to Mr Woo-min Kim, who's the Senior Sales Manager handling KBS' Southeast Asia's account.

And here's my email correspondence with KBS below.

Hello Hallyu's email to KBS

KBS' reply to HelloHallyu

Thanks!
The local (Singaporean) media company BlueMax has apparently purchased the rights for this drama here. Naturally, the next step for me is to check with BlueMax on the release date.

Would like to say a big "Thank You" to Mr Kim at KBS again for the prompt reply. Frankly, I was mentally prepared to receive a template corporate email reply from KBS. Their prompt and useful reply really made my day.

For fans who would like to check on the probable release of titles in home countries, you can check the regional KBS sales manager contacts here.

Watched the final episode of Flowers for My Life with Mydaemon earlier in the week. We were unsure of what to expect since this drama is so "un-stereotypical" of Korean dramas. Just like the real world, Flowers for My Life unfolds in a orderly yet chaotic way reminisence of our daily lives.

The realistic yet fluid way of storytelling meant that the series is likely to end "happily" with Hosang (Cha Tae Hyun) surviving his pancreatic cancer (with a 98% fatality rate) or "less happily" with the passing of Hosang. However, the wonderful part of this series is that despite our hope for Hosang to survive against the odds, we are already at peace for an alternative ending.

Why should I be contented with a less than fairy-tale ending?

Simply because the director and scriptwriter have both done a good, if not great, job in telling a story of how a dying man and his love learn to understand that death is no obstacle to love and that a life lived is indeed a life fully experienced.

This drama is about the meaning of what it is to be truly alive. My lack of vocabluary do great injustice to the sensitive and rich manner in which the story for Flowers for My Life was told.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who is handling a difficult situation where a loved one is sick as well as those who wants a wake up call to the daily drone which we call life. Do be prepared for a roller-coaster ride of emotions as moments of joy will be interspersed with moments of grief and sadness. Do not be too worried that you will be left an emotional wreck at the end of the drama as all emotional aspects of the drama was handled in a highly sensitive manner.

Everything that happened in the drama happened for a reason. Expect no fluff and superficiality associated with most other Korean dramas. This is a drama about 'humanity' from the beginning to the end. I have no regrets about the accidental manner with which I stumbled across this drama while channel surfing a month or two back. Guess this is one of life's little surprises and ongoing lessons for me.

Watch this as it is even better than Alone in Love - a drama which is also highly rated.

Flowers for my life, bagus!

This is a great show. Sensitive, funny, heartwarming. It's way too underrated. The lead actress Kang Hye Jeong reminds me of Cecilia Cheung. The prettier and more innocent version. We're now at episode 10. While I can't wait for it to finish, I know I'll feel a little twinge of sadness when it ends. Watch out for my review.

New Drama: Flowers for My Life (KBS)

Playing on the goggle box at Hello Hallyu's "headquarters" is the new KBS drama Flowers for My Life. Cha Tae-hyun (My Sassy Girl) and Kang Hye-jeong plays an unlikely couple brought together by the most bizarre twist of events. Cha Tae-hyun plays Yoon Ho-sang, a typical good for nothing bum, stumbling along with his nondescript life. Life took a dramatic turn when he, (a) takes on the identity of a rich man, (b) meets Na Hana (Kang Hye-jeong), a girl looking for a rich man who's dying so as to inherit his wealth, and (c) eventually falling in love with Hana. These ingredients add up to make a really campy and hilarious drama.

Flowers for My Life

Having watched just 5 episodes of the drama, and I have to say that Flowers for My Life is one of the better romantic comedies after 2006's The Man in the Vineyard. The posturing from both Ho-sang and Hana lead to situations which really cracked me up. Flowers for My Life is a light-hearted drama with lots of laughs and fun. This is one drama that doesn't try too hard to be a good, cause discerning viewers will know its true value once the drama starts playing.

Although it is too early to make a rating call, Hello Hallyu highly recommends Flowers for My Life to everyone who's looking for a drama that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't and doing all the rights things that it was trying to achieve. Kudos to KBS, its director and scriptwriter.
